Cherry Bathroom Cabinets
Cherry Bathroom Cabinets:
I was commissioned to design and build cabinets for two bathrooms. The design is identical for each bathroom. Two 36” x 36” vanities with a 24” x 30” bank of drawers between, along with 2 framed mirrors, a medicine cabinet, and a shelf for storage complete each room.
I used Maple plywood for the cabinets inside and Cherry for the face frame, doors, and drawer fronts. The customer’s chose Quartz counter tops that complement the Cherry very well!
In 2014 I harvested a large Cherry tree in Alamance County. I got six good logs out of the tree which is a pretty good sized Cherry for central North Carolina. I had the logs milled, then I stacked and stickered the boards and have air dried them since. All of the Cherry wood used on both sets of cabinets and accessories were built from the trunk of this tree!
I finished the Cherry with two sprayed coats of gloss polyurethane and topped with one coat of satin poly. I rubbed out the finish with oooo steel wool and paste wax for a furniture grade finish. I used concealed hinges and full extension “touch open” drawer slides on the drawers to eliminate the need for handles.
