Harvesting a Plum Tree
This Plum tree is in a small orchard and has been neglected for years except for the birds and other critters enjoying the plums. The tree was barely alive this year so I decided to harvest it for some turning projects. The large mass at the base is where the tree was grafted to local root stock which is typical for fruit trees. The graft point as well as the root ball should offer some amazing figured grain so I decided to dig the whole thing up! I made two bowls to see the figure and texture but they will warp since the wood is green. I will continue to add pictures of new bowls I will make as the wood dries.
