Japanese Temple Bell Stand
The bell stand is a traditional design used to hold a Japanese Temple Bell. I used various types of joinery to build a beautfful yet strong stand that could hold the heavy bell when in use. I used native Walnut lumber for the stand. The arced cap rail and tight fitting bridal joint at the base make the structure solid and sound.
The traditional style mallet is made of native Ash and hangs from a Walnut peg. I used hemp cord to make a Chinese flower knot and tassels, often used with Japanese Temple Bells, and added a sliding bead made from the root of a Plum tree by which to hang the mallet.
The bell is used to ring in the new year!
