Kitchen Update
This house was built in the late 1950's and needed a modern kitchen. Here's what I did:
- The door was relocated and a window added in it's place to enlarge the kitchen and let in more natural light
- Built new cabinets with solid Cherry doors and drawer fronts to custom fit the space; using 100 pound-weight capacity full-extension drawer slides made the drawers completely functional
- Installed a mosaic tile backsplash which extened up the wall
- The counter top is made from recycled glass suspended in a resin which is highly resistant to heat, scratches and staining; called "Trend Glass", it was installed by Granite Transformations and comes with a lifetime warranty
- The sink is a composit granite material
- The stained glass was made by local artist Beverly Currence www.glassartwindows.net
- The 40" range has 1.5 electric ovens and a 5 burner gas top
- I used a range hood designed for an island to achieve the open look and provide venting over the entire surface of the range coupled with an eight inch duct to the outside for maximum ventilation
- I built the cabinets to accomodate an electric warming drawer beside the range
- Because the house is built on an on-grade slab, I installed a floating Pergo laminate floor on a padded vapor barrier which is easy to maintain, durable, and easy on the legs
