Tree Fort Birdhouse
I was comissioned to build a functioning birdhouse that is a replica of a playground's tree fort. I used the designers perspective drawing for inspiration. The main body of the house is Walnut and is intended to look like an ancient tree stump. I hollowed out a cavity that would attract songbirds. The covered doorway shelters the entry hole. Steps lead to the observation deck that features a swiveling telescope like the one on the tree fort drawing. In addition to the Walnut I used Soft Maple, Curly Hard Maple, Cherry, Ash, and Juniper.
The birdhouse was designed to be easily mounted on a standard 4X4 post. 2 screws were used to attach the base so removal for seasional clean out would be easy.
A second house was comissioned and I used Cedar as the main body on this one. Similar details were incorperated in the design as well as the same types of wood.
