Wharton Esherick Museum 2016
I am happy to announce that my picture frame, “Old Wood” has been chosen to
display in the Wharton Esherick Museum in Paloi, PA until December 31, 2016.
My work was selected, along with several other artists from around the world, for
display and then sale. The work was to be functional- beyond decorative and
ceremonial, primarily made of wood, and an expression of non-traditional,
imaginative new design.
The event was judged by Albert LeCoff, Executive Director of The Center for
Art in Wood, Philadelphia, PA.; Laura Hemmer, Curator, The Wharton Esherick
Museum.; and Amy Forsythe, Associate Professor of Design, Lehigh University,
Bethlehem, PA.
“Old Wood” is a 20 inch square frame made from reclaimed wood. The outer and inner parts are American Chestnut that I salvaged from an old piano built around 1927. I removed the piano’s Mahogany veneer and exposed it’s structure of solid Chestnut. The middle section is made from reclaimed heart Pine flooring from an old North Carolina homestead that was being demolished. The frame will accommodate a 12 inch square picture. It includes an acid free mat to customize the image size. The frame is finished with shellac.
